250 g of flour
50 g sugar
50 g cold butter
1 egg yolk
150 ml milk
50 g walnuts, in pieces
50 g raisins
Zest of 1 orange
1 pinch of salt
1 sachet of baking powder
Preheat the oven to 200 ° C.
In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and a pinch of salt.
Add the butter and mix well.
In another bowl, mix together the milk with the egg yolk. Gradually add this mixture to the flour until the dough is soft.
Add the raisins, walnuts and zest and mix.
Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough until it is about 2 cm thick.
Use a cutter to cut out your scones, then place them on a lined baking tray.
Put in the oven for 15 minutes till golden brown.
Make sure your butter is cold – this stops the butter from melting into the flour when it’s mixed together and means you will get more rise when the scones are baked.
